A superb 80 minute performance from a ruthless and workmanlike Cockles outfit demonstrated what can happen when a full strength side is in the right frame of mind.

In a ridiculously close league, only five points was going to be enough to ensure we played in SW Premier for another season. Recent weeks has certainly taught us that nothing will ever go in our favour elsewhere and we should never be seeking results to go our way in things that we have no control over.

The guys absolutely took hold of the game from start to finish , with key players really stepping up in the battle to ensure survival. Centre and man of the match Mark Wathes cut Camborne's defence open time and time again and scored three tries on the bounce to ease any fears of a Camborne comeback. A bonus point was in the bag by the end of the first half, and it was then important to ensure that we stayed focused , but also continued to play with intent and passion throughout.

Dave Bargent ran over and around many a Camborne defender in a sublime performance, and with the returning Sam Richardson and Richard Bright showing their class , this was a classy Cockles outfit on show. Mike Richards, Captain Jack Fahy and experienced back rower James Harris showed their strength with big ball carries and some huge defensive hits that could be heard at the back of the stand. It is safe to say that everyone stepped up, fronted up and were focused throughout.

Our home form this season, as always has been extremely impressive. Our form on the road must improve next season , and we must also make some cultural changes to ensure that we are a more consistent side. We have demonstrated glimpses of our potential , but the mere fact that we have used 40 players in the league this season goes some way towards showing why inconsistency has been at the heart of our issues, in particularly on the road.

We now have an opportunity to send departing Director of Rugby Chris Wright on his way with some silverware as we seek to regain the Devon Senior Cup. What a man Wrighty has been, and perhaps the most instrumental man at the club for the past two decades. Of course there are many men, and women, who have played a huge part in the clubs successes in recent times, however the guy often at the coal face , and working tirelessly behind the scenes has been Chris. A true rugby gent, who wears his heart on his sleeve , and has gone way over and above the call of duty to ensure that Exmouth has become a regional force in rugby circles. Whilst the players are very capable of achieving great things all by themselves, the added motivation of giving the man a send off that he richly deserves is sure to keep everyone in check and ready for the battle against Cup holders Brixham when we entertain them this coming Tuesday, 7.15pm kick off.
