The Cockles gained a bonus point victory against Ivybridge in a pulsating Devon Derby Clash.

Coaches Comments

A sublime forward orientated performance saw us dominate Ivybridge at scrum and maul time , and former Ivybridge Community College pupil Tom Barnard deservedly gained the man of the match for a huge scrum Performance.

Ivybridge once again started brightly (similar to the first game) , scoring an interception try, but as the game went on, we certainly grabbed hold of the fixture and could have put the game to bed a little earlier. Three disallowed push over tries , two from scrums and one from a driving maul, somewhat harsh on the Exmouth forwards , which was a shame (one pictured). At least two Ivybridge players were very lucky to stay on the field for illegally dragging down mauls , such was our superiority.

An excellent second half performance saw us dominate territory and possession , and to be fair to Ivybridge they were in our 22 metre area just once in the second half and scored a drive maul try. They contributed widely to the game and Damon Ackerman looked especially lively in broken field play.

The character of the team was there for all to see , and most teams would have just run the clock down to take the four points and a narrow victory, so it was great to see us raise the tempo in injury time and work our way up the pitch to claim a big bonus point try.

A fantastic way to sign off 2017, with some good momentum gained before Christmas in what was another good day for the club. The 2nd xv claimed a 33-7 victory away at Ivybridge to complete a 1st and 2nd xv double over our Devon Rivals.

We would like to take this opportunity to wish all of our members and sponsors a fantastic Christmas and New Year , and thank you for supporting us.
