Coaches comments following bonus point victory over high flying Cleve

Head Coach Jon Hill comments :

"An absolutely superb performance by an injury depleted squad , showing how valuable strength in depth is at the club, and clearly seeing the benefits of the clubs decision to enter the South West Pilot League games with our 2nd xv.

"With player coaches Tom Whelan and Dave Bargent both pulling out on the morning of the game with injury and illness, in a squad already missing captain Jack Fahy, James Harris , Mark Wathes plus many others, to have taken a bonus point is perhaps the best performance of the season. We had to dig deep and demonstrate an unbelievable team spirit , where everyone pulled together to dominate Cleve in the first half.

"Lewis Cooper had a fantastic game in the back row, alongside the impressive Ben Hawley and skipper for the day Sam Richardson. Tom Steer slotted in at inside centre, and the 2nd xv captain put in a decent shift on his full home league debut. Considering we had flanker Pete Ingoldsby on the wing and scrum half Lloyd Watkins at centre, I felt that we dealt with an awful lot today and showed out undoubted character. George Meadows once again pulled the strings well, and Lloyd Watkins showed his undoubted qualities deservedly gaining the man of the match award (pictured with player sponsor The Point Bar & Grill).

"We must look at the scores we conceded that needlessly put us under pressure when in the final quarter, and we should also look at the way we closed out the game as we made too many errors. However, on the whole this was a monumental performance from us , especially when you consider the personnel that we were missing. A true club effort , well done to all.

"It is now important to kick on and show some consistency in our performances. We can certainly build on the last two league games where we have demonstrated huge character and resilience. There becomes no bigger stage than next weekend, when we go away to the league leaders in a 1st and 2nd xv double header."

The 2nd xv lost 17-5 to Clifton in a well matched affair , George Savage gaining the Man of the match award. The mighty nomads continued their rich vein of form with an impressive 17-12 win away at South Molton , and the Colts had a comfortable win at home to Sidmouth. A great return for the colts who were a number of players light due to the fact that six players were on duty for the 2nd xv!
