90 point thriller in Merit Table Top Spot tussle.

This was a hotly anticipated game in the Devon Merit table, two leading teams seeking top spot. Rich Cadywould had a magnificent day with the boot converting all 8 tries and scoring one of his own, finishing with a personal tally of 21 points. Exmouth dominated the first half with tries from Tom Steer and Harvey Ridgeway. Newton Abbot countered with a penalty and try bringing the score to 14-8. Cadywould went over, followed by Will Hockin and Tom Steer. With The Cockles in good great form they hit the break 35-8 ahead.

Clearly revived from the sun shine break, Newton Abbot came out with intent and scored two tries converted of their own, 35-22. Some slight lapse in Exmouth defence to let in the scores. Nick Watt nipped in for a try, increasing the lead 42-22. Not to outdone Newton Abbot countered again with a try of their own, 42-27. The match was still in see-saw mode as each team continued to play some great open rugby, Nick Watt crossed for his second try and Skipper Tom Steer completed his hat-trick before Newton Abbott finished off the points tally with a converted score, 56-34.

Exmouth 2nd team now top the Devon Merit table with The All Whites close behind. This was a measured and controlled performance from a rapidly improving team. Next week on to Devonport Services.
