Cockles gain a bonus.

The Fishermen scored a rapid 24 points in the first 15 minutes. Exmouth barely touched the ball for the first 18 minutes and the visitors were abrasive and strong running to score 4 tries through Tom Goodman, Connor Bedwell (2) and Jesse Lowe with 2 conversions from the boot of Mitch Pinkus. The visitors had secured a try bonus point. Finally The Cockles got their hands on the ball and started working to try and get back in the game. After some great phases Mark Wathes ghosted in to score Exmouth first try, converted by Tom Whelan. This signaled resurgence and the home side did their best to get back in to strike territory. Unfortunately the odd knock on or slight error ended the surge. On 26 minutes Brixham No.10 Pinkus stretched the lead 7-27 to Brixham. Exmouth did have a chance to close the gap before half time with a kick-able penalty but chose to play from a set piece. The attack fizzled out just on half time.

A game of two halves, definitely. The break did help the home side re gather and seek to get something out of the game. Just 4 minutes in to the second half Skipper Jack Fahy went over for the try, Whelan missed the extras 12-27, Exmouth finally looked back in this one. Penalty count once again reared its head and Pinkus slotted for Brixham, then on 55 minutes, Pinkus converted a try from Harrison Cully, 12-37, the game looked over. Throughout the day the Exmouth forwards had control of the set piece scrum and always looked good in the line-out. It was the scrum that was particularly pleasing and this proved to help as the game wore on. Front row George Savage on a welcome return, Nick Halse and Charlie Tribble muscled up well and dominated the Brixham front three. On 63 minutes Second Row Jack Fahy went over for his second try, this one converted by George Meadows. In at Fly-Half in the latter stage of the game, Meadows always looked to threaten the gain line. Brixham lost Matt Skeet to a yellow card. With 15 minutes to go the superior scrum battered Brixham, as they had done previously. The end result, the referee had no choice but to march under the posts for a penalty try and automatic 7 points. 26-37. Exmouth went hunting for the losing bonus point, with one point already secured for 4 tries scored. The final exchanges were physical and both teams had ideas to run and increase the point gap. Brixham did have another penalty chance but missed. Exmouth busted very avenue to get up field. The introduction of replacements George Meadows, Nick Headley and Ethan Langson Justice making his 1st XV debut, ensured that the team worked seamlessly until the final seconds. The end of the game came with shaky kick to touch by the visitors; they knew that The Cockles were closing in on a second bonus point.
To start the day with nothing and finish the day with a bonus point is a gain. The effort from all is unquestionable. With other results around the South West Premier League coming in, it was clear the league positions would not change despite the defeat. Exmouth stay mid table in 7th position.

Thank you to Dave Sansom and our valued Match-Day Sponsor Jewson Exmouth. After a thoroughly enjoyable day they chose their Man of the Match as Connor O'Shaughnessy, sponsored by Point Bar and Grill.

On to next week and The Cockles visit Camborne, a tough place to go, however the Cockles did gain a valuable win away last term.
